On Friday afternoon, Iowa State received some good news when 3-star wide receiver T.J. Tampa (Saint Petersburg, FL) committed to the Cyclones. With T.J. on board, the Cyclones now have twenty prospects committed for the 2020 class, and as of right now, they have the third ranked class in the Big 12 and the thirty-third ranked class in the nation according to 247 Sports. I know we already have a small write up on T.J.’s commitment, but I wanted to get a deep dive on why he chose Iowa State after announcing his top seven just last week. So, here is my interview with Iowa State’s latest commit, T.J. Tampa.
WRNL: What really sold you on choosing Iowa State out of all the other schools that recruited you?
T.J.: “When I came back home from the visit (Back in June), they impressed me the most out of all the other schools. I developed a great connection with the coaches and fell in love with what they had to offer.”
WRNL: Did the success of former Iowa State receivers Allen Lazard and Hakeem Butler play a small factor in your decision?
T.J.: “Yes sir, it did.”
WRNL: What did you think of Ames?
T.J.: “I honestly didn’t get to see the town that much, but I will when I take my official visit.”
WRNL: Do you have an official visit date in mind and is there a certain game you want to go see?
T.J.: “I know it will be sometime in December and I think it is still being finalized. There isn’t a certain game yet, but I do want to see one.”
WRNL: Tell me about your future position coach, Nate Scheelhaase.
T.J.: “He is a cool person to be around and they make me feel like if I ever have a problem, I could go to him.”
WRNL: Are you planning to enroll early?
T.J.: “No.”
WRNL: Where do you see the Iowa State program in the next few years?
T.J.: “I see the program having nothing but progress when I am there because the 2020 class at Iowa State looks really good.”
