Bacon Bits: Iowa State Recruiting Notes

A few crootin’ nuggets as we approach the season.

Hey Cyclone fans, I hope you are hungry. Hungry for some bacon because who the hell isn’t always hungry for bacon? Ok, it isn’t real bacon, but this is my feature for Iowa State recruiting tidbits I have during the week. Anything on my mind or anything that doesn’t go on my recruiting big boards will be posted here as “Bacon Bits”. Whether you like it crispy, chewy or somewhere in-between. This should satisfy your need for Iowa State recruiting news and unlike those “other” sites, we won’t charge you 9 bucks a month or even a dollar a month. It’s ABSOLUTELY FREE as always. Today, I will be talking about some key visitors heading to Ames this weekend and I’ll chat with some 2020 potential Iowa State targets.

Visitors for the Northern Iowa Game

Now, I don’t have every single name that will visit but I feel like I have most of them covered. I reached out to as many contacts and players as I could in a short amount of time and here is what I came up with.

· 2020 3-Star CB Michal Antoine (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

· 2021 3-Star OT Bastian Swinney (Minneapolis, MN)

· 2021 3-Star OG Henry Lutovsky (Mount Pleasant, IA)

· 2021 3-Star WR Brody Brecht (Ankeny, IA)

· 2021 3-Star RB Tajheem Lawson (Chicago Heights, IL)

· 2021 TE AJ Rollins (Omaha, NE)

· 2022 CB Xavier Nwankpa (Altoona, IA)

If you have been following along with me, you know just how bad the Cyclones need 2020 3-Star CB Michal Antoine. Iowa State doesn’t have a cornerback commit for the 2020 class so getting Michal on campus after putting the Cyclones in his top six is HUGE. Now, awhile back when I talked to Michal, he was planning on committing in August and with this visit right before his commitment date, I was almost certain that Iowa State would land him. However, since we last spoke, he has pushed back his commitment date to September 19th for his birthday which makes things a little more interesting. Obviously having the other guys on campus is huge but consider how badly the Cyclones need a corner in the upcoming class, I turned my attention to focus more on Michal.

Other Potential 2020 Targets to Keep an Eye On

2020 OT Jonathan Decker (Elkhart, IN)- I know the Cyclones already have four offensive line commits for the 2020 class but I got the chance to speak with Jonathan on some recent interest that Iowa State seems to be showing in him. He told me that the staff has been in contact with his high school coach and that he does plan on taking a visit to Ames this season. As of now, there is no date set for a visit. Jonathan currently has offers from small FCS schools and his offer list could be growing quickly this season.

2020 JUCO DT Marquis Burks (Iowa Western C.C.)- This is another huge position need for the 2020 class for Iowa State. I mentioned last week in my defensive big board that the Cyclones offered JUCO DT Latrell Bankston a couple weeks ago and now the staff has set their eyes on Marquis Burks who recently just picked up an Auburn offer. Marquis told me that “I respect the Iowa State program highly, and I really like what they have going on in Ames.” He also mentioned that if the Cyclones do extend him an offer, he will take an official visit.
