Note from Levi:

As Iowa State football and basketball continue to grow, we’re working to expand our coverage to bring you as much high-quality Cyclone content as we can. One area we haven’t been able to touch on much over the last few years is recruiting, but we know how much everyone likes knowing who the next future Cyclones might be. We brought on Derek Duke last month to handle our football recruiting, but we still needed to fill the basketball void.

In stepped Tony, who sent me a message just a few hours after I had talked to Derek about expanding into basketball, expressing interest writing for the site and possibly covering recruiting.

So, going forward, Tony will be our lead basketball recruiting expert. Since he’s new here, be sure to let him know if there are any specific players you’d like to know more about, or how he can improve his recruiting pieces!

Hey, everyone! My name is Tony Liebert, and I’m a freshman at Iowa State. I’m originally from Minnesota, so my Cyclone fandom is fairly new, but I’m a huge basketball fan at all levels. My playing career consisted of playing varsity football for two seasons on the offensive line, and I played high school basketball up until my sophomore year. My professional team ties, land with the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins, but Iowa State has quickly risen to the top of my list overall.

I chose to attend Iowa State because the entire area of Ames felt very inviting. Being the massive sports fan that I am, I was wanting to attend a division one school. Iowa State’s combination of a historic basketball program as well as an up-and-coming football program made it the perfect choice for a kid from the Minneapolis area.

During my first week of school in Ames, I already feel at home. I have quickly figured out that Cyclone Nation is a very loyal and passionate fanbase, which makes their programs so easy to root for. I have been interested in writing and presenting sports media for most of my life, so Wide Right & Natty Lite was a great fit for me. You should expect basketball recruiting news from me in the future, as well as anything I am able to put together. #PurdyforHeisman
