Betting the Big 12: Week 10

Let’s lock in on the small schedule this week.

NCAA Football: Texas Tech at Texas Christian Andrew Dieb-USA TODAY Sports

Last week we went 3-4. Funny story. Here was the difference between a winning and losing week:

That play was preceded by Texas Tech kicking a field goal with 2 and half minutes left (!) to try and cut the margin to 1 score (justifiable). But, the timing and the length of the field goal (it was over 40 yards) made no sense. Tech of course missed the kick, and Max Duggan ripped our collective hearts out. Also missing out was Clemson not getting a defensive stop late to blow a cover and Iowa State blowing a 14 point 4th quarter lead. All tough, but despite that, we’re still positive for the year, and this week’s schedule is much smaller. It’s time to get back on track.

THE GAMES

TCU (3-3) at West Virginia (4-3)

Kickoff: 11:00am | TV: FOX | The Line: West Virginia -3

Just as I suspected, West Virginia laid it all on the line at Texas last week, and came up with a cover in a controversial 4 point loss. The follow up is bound to be tough. This line is smaller than expected, and West Virginia is 3-1 against the spread at home this season. Let’s roll with the ‘Eers.

Pick: West Virginia -3

Baylor (1-4) at Texas Tech (2-5)

Kickoff: 3:00pm | TV: FS1 | The Line: Texas Tech -1

What an absolute stink bomb of a game. I can’t stand either of these teams. Finding an angle week-to-week has been next to impossible. As far as I can tell, Henry Colombi will turn the ball over, and Texas Tech’s offense is surprisingly stagnant. I guess I’ll go with the more experienced QB. Lock up Baylor and don’t watch a second of this game.

Pick: Baylor +1

BEST BETS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY

Cincinnati -27 vs East Carolina

Cincinnati is a covering machine. East Carolina is not good enough to hang around. It’s a lot of points to deal with, but I’d rather back to much better team.

Purdue +1.5 vs Northwestern

Northwestern is 3-0 but hanging on the edge. Purdue beat Iowa at home to open the season. This is dangerously close to an unranked team being favored at home against a ranked team. I’m guessing the public is buying in on the Cats.

NFL PICK OF THE WEEKEND

Bears +3 vs Vikings

Betting on the Bears is a personal nightmare for a fan like myself. The offense is an unending chore to watch. However, this is Kirk Cousins in primetime against a defense that he hasn’t beat since joining the Vikings. The Bears are underdogs???? Sign me up.

PROP OF THE WEEK

Number of Iowa fans feigning outrage about playing on a Friday night?
