Last Time Out
Last time we saw our Cyclone pumpkin pushers was the night before the sports world halted due to COVID-19. Iowa State lost to Oklahoma State in Kansas City, 72-71. They almost pulled it off late, but fell short.
About Arkansas Pine Bluff
These guys have already played two games this season, making a trip around Wisconsin this past week. Arkansas-Pine Bluff is 0-2 on the season with losses to Marquette and Wisconsin to start 2020 off. Let’s just say that they can’t score the ball and their offense is on track to be one of the worst in the country.
To start the season, their offensive efficiency ranks 356th in the country and their defense, isn’t trailing far beyond that. So far they are giving up 44% from behind the arc and allowing teams to shoot a 60% effective field goal range overall. Needless to say, Iowa State will have an opportunity to ignite their offense early on in the season.
Iowa State holds a 4-0 lead in the all-time series against UAPB, with the last meeting coming in 2015 as Steve Prohm’s ninth game at Iowa State. Iowa State is 29-0 all time against teams from the SWAC.
Opponent Player To Watch
Shaun Doss, he is the leading scorer for the Golden Lions and is coming off a 27 point performance against Wisconsin. He shot 33% from three point land in the effort. He was turnover prone in the game against the Badgers, turning it over 7 times. Something to keep an eye out for.
What Will Happen
Iowa State should win this once pretty handily and it may be ugly early due to the energy in Hilton with no crowd. We are going to probably see a ton of moving pieces as Steve Prohm tries to figure out who his guys are, especially all the new faces that have entered the program this season. The starters sound it will be as followed; Rasir Bolton, Tyler Harris, Jalen Coleman-Lands, Javan Johnson and Solomon Young. Obviously this can change at any moment.
We are fortunate to have basketball during a pandemic. Let’s sit back and soak it and be patient with this Cyclone team as they navigate this season.
Iowa State - 87
Arkansas Pine Bluff - 60
Pick Three
1- Tyler Harris finishes as the leading scorer
2- Cyclones fail to score over 35 in the first half
3- Steve Prohm accidently puts Chapstick on over his mask
