Last week the column went 4-3 to get back on our winning ways. I can’t think of a better way to close out the regular season. Even the Kansas pick, as hard as it was to stomach, was an easy winner against the spread. This week was supposed to be make up week, but 2 games have already been cancelled with a 3rd being possible. Hopefully by Saturday this week’s picks haven’t been rendered incomplete due to cancellations. Let’s bring it home before the Championship Game next Saturday!
THE GAMES
#22 Oklahoma State (6-3) at Baylor (2-6)
Kickoff: 6:00pm | TV: ESPNU | The Line: Oklahoma State -4.5
Oklahoma State can’t wait for the season to be over. The eye test tells me everything I need to know about how they played that TCU game last week. Baylor, for their part, was great stopping the run against Oklahoma last week. I don’t think Spencer Sanders is the threat to beat them throwing the ball, so the Bears it is. Baylor has shut down football activity during the week, so this game is a threat to not happen at all.
Pick: Baylor +4.5
Louisiana Tech (5-3) at TCU (5-4)
Kickoff: 6:00pm | TV: FS1 | The Line: TCU -21
Just the fact that this game is being played tells me how I need to bet it. TCU is on a roll, and feeling confident. So much so that they took advantage of getting their non-conference game rescheduled. La Tech has played 1 game since Halloween and has a defense that struggles to stop anyone. Ride the momentum with the Frogs.
Pick: TCU -21
BEST BETS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY
Iowa +2 vs Wisconsin
Wisconsin has played 2 good defenses in 4 games this year. Against Northwestern they scored 7 points. Against Indiana, they scored 6. And look, Iowa is going to win this game. It’ll be really annoying, so we might as well profit off of it.
Army -7 vs Navy
A special pick just for this game, one of the great college football traditions that 2020 has allowed. Navy has scored 13 points combined in their last 2 games, and I don’t see the triple option suddenly being more effective against a team that also runs it. I think it’ll be a low scoring game (the under has hit 14 years in a row) and I’m picking the superior team.
NFL PICK OF THE WEEKEND
Texans -1 at Bears
As if this season hasn’t been enough of a disaster for the Bears, another QB they should have picked in 2017, Deshaun Watson, is going to dominate this game. The Bears’ defense has given up, and who can blame them? Make it 7 straight losses for Chicago, who can’t get to the offseason fast enough.
PROP OF THE WEEK
How many times will Iowa State be called “Iowa” in promos for the Big 12 Championship Game?
