Last Time Out
Iowa State survived in Cedar Falls, taking down the UNI Panthers, 67-61. A rough shooting night for both squads, but ISU was able to outlast the young Panther team. Kristin Scott played her best game on the season, pouring in 18 points while grabbing 11 boards.
About Kansas State
Kansas State comes to Hilton sporting a 5-2 record, most notably notching a win over South Dakota State. They have not faced much competition in the early going, facing just one Power 5 opponent thus far when they lost to 9th-ranked Kentucky.
The Wildcats have struggled quite a bit in the early going on the offensive side, ranking last in the Big 12 in scoring, field goal percentage, 3 point percentage and free throw percentage. They do however, hang around in the top 3 for almost every defensive statistic. Their style reminds me a lot of some Bill Snyder football teams. They aren’t going to razzle dazzle at all but they will be better than you that day. Ugly.
They Cyclones enter the night winning 4 of the last 5 matchups between the schools.
Opponent Player to Watch
While K-State does not have much offensive production, Ayoka Lee has led the attack. The 6 foot 6 inch sophomore has been dominating the paint early this season, averaging over 18 points and 11 rebounds per contest. Iowa State’s tallest player stands at just 6 foot 3, so yes I am afraid of getting Udoka Azubuike flashbacks.
What Will Happen
Iowa State doesn’t go two games shooting poorly. Just doesn’t happen under Bill Fennelly. Kansas State really has not been tested this season, so I do not see them as being the better team tonight. Ashley Joens gets back on track and the Cyclones roll the Wildcats.
