Most expected the 2019-2020 Cyclones to roll over and die in their first round matchup in the Big 12 Tournament against Oklahoma State. Prentiss Nixon had other ideas.

The senior went for a season-high 25 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the floor, and hit a number of big shots that kept the Cyclones in the game until the final horn.

The Cyclones maintained a consistent lead that stretched as high as ten through most of the second half, but critical defensive mistakes and a questionable no-call ultimately doomed Iowa State, ending their season on a tough note. However, the team should be commended for the grit and toughness they showed tonight which they had lacked for much of the post-Tyrese Haliburton season.

This season’s been a rocky one, but the offseason could prove to be the most intriguing. With a highly-rated recruiting class, a number of expected departures, and a true “come to Jesus” moment for Steve Prohm, the drama surrounding the Iowa State basketball program may just be beginning.
