Sports are cancelled. Now what?

Our plan for passing the time.

NCAA Football: Camping World Bowl-Notre Dame vs Iowa State Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

So, sports are cancelled for the foreseeable future. Well, except for NASCAR. For the first time in probably at least a century, there will be no major collegiate or professional sports taking place. Iowa State has already moved back their spring practice, and most in-person recruiting activities have also been put on hold. Concert tours are also going on hiatus.

What does this all mean? Well, obviously, there’s not much going on right now. However, that doesn’t mean we’re just going to do the Mid-Morning Dump and call it a day until we start to (eventually) get back to normal (whenever that is).

First, starting next week we’ll be doing our Step Into My Office articles to recap the season, and talk about what each key men’s basketball returnee needs to do to improve before the 2020-2021 season.

Since we’ll have the time, you can absolutely expect to see some historical articles from Jared Larson. We’ll also have our own bracket for everyone to vote on (no spoilers on this one, sorry). We’ll definitely have a bunch of other fun articles to help us pass the time.

Another thing we’ll be getting back to is our eSports leagues. If we can’t watch sports, the next best thing is playing them in a video game, right? We’ve run Madden franchises and Fortnite tournaments in the past to great success, and want to do more stuff like that going forward. We could also expand to games like NBA 2K, iRacing, Call of Duty, League of Legends, or anything else you guys are interested in playing.

If you’re interested in playing in a league for particular game, or even helping run a league, let me know in the comments, or send me an email (levistev at gmail dot com).

We’re also going to be doing more streams going forward. I’ve been streaming games of Madden 20’s CFB Mod occasionally, and will do so more regularly going forward. If you haven’t seen one yet, here’s my most recent one, where I absolutely blasted Boise State.

I’m also going to be doing Ask Me Anythings in the stream chat, so you’ll have the opportunities to ask anything about me, the site, Iowa State sports, or whatever you can think of. There’s also a good chance that I’ll ask for play call suggestions in-game, so you could tell me to only run fake field goals or Four Verticals every play if you wanted to. We’ll also be adding a few more regular live streams, so keep an eye out for those.

Since we’re now in a period of an unprecedented lack of sports news to discuss, we’re certainly open to outside ideas for articles, whether they be a research project, rankings, brackets, or whatever you come up with. So if you’ve got a great idea, let us know in the comments or shoot me an email at the address listed earlier.
