Every Iowa State Football Game Ever: The 1930s

We go from 0-9 in 1930 to ranked No. 18 in the AP Poll this decade, so, that’s neat.

Fun facts for this decade are hard to come by but I have two.

Nick Nolte’s father, Frank, lettered at Iowa State from 1929 to 1931.

“Dressed out in the Maize and Blue of Michigan rather than Cardinal and Gold, Iowa State’s football team wins five of its first six games and the Cyclones are the talk of the Midwest,” Cyclones.com said in their recap of the 1930s.

Shoutout tert primary blue?

Rule Changes this Decade:

These are verbatim from this link, so this isn’t my work, it’s just to save a click.

1932: Most far-reaching changes in a quarter of a century set up safeguards against hazards of game: 1) Ball declared dead when any portion of a player other than hands or feet touch the ground; 2) Use of flying block and flying tackle barred under penalty of 5 yds.; 3) Players on defense forbidden to strike opponents on head, neck, or face; 4) Hard or dangerous equipment must be covered with padding.

1934, The Ball: Measurement around middle reduced to 21 1/4 to 21 1/2”.

1937, Uniforms: Numbering front (6” arabic) and back (10” arabic) required.

1939: All players must wear head protectors.
