Twister Sisters Before the Storm: Bring on Tech

Cyclones Look to Bounce Back Against Texas Tech

Last Time Out

I hope no one put money on that Joens and Collier above 30 bet. The two prolific scorers didn’t even reach 20. Joens finished with 19, Collier with 14. So maybe I don’t get everything right. The Longhorns handled the Cyclones with a balanced attack of scoring with all five starters finishing with double digits in points. However, I think the reason why the Cyclones lost is a reoccurring pain for this Iowa State team: long scoring droughts.

The Cyclones had droughts to start the third quarter, and one that stretched from the end of the third quarter to the start of the fourth. If Ashley Joens can’t get her shots to fall, the Cyclones are going to need to find a reliable second option, and find one fast. Especially, if they’re dying by the three instead of living from it. Texas won 74-59.

About Texas Tech

Texas Tech is a dangerous team, but not anywhere near the top of the Big 12. They’re currently 1-2 in the conference, including a heartbreaker against OU, and getting mollywhopped (urban dictionary it if you have to) by Oklahoma State and Baylor.

Tech has a duo of high scoring guards, or at least high scoring when they win games, in Vivian Gray and Lexi Gordon. Both like to shoot the 3 ball at an inconsistent rate. Also, if Iowa State struggles with not scoring the ball for long periods of time, Texas Tech has its PhD in it. This team can go a loooooong time without getting a bucket on the offensive side, take the under.

What Will Happen

I think the Cyclones get back on track after a loss, and a postponed game against Kansas. I think the 3 ball falls like it did against Drake, Ashley Joens has another big game, and the Cyclones win big.

(Side note: If your NFL team isn’t playing this Sunday tune in and Watch. This. Team. They’ve gotten off to a slow start, but this team is full of young promising talent, and retains practically everyone in what could be a historic year for women’s basketball next year.)

Iowa State- 66

Texas Tech- 48

Pick Three

Iowa State shoots above 35% from 3
