Iowa State had a convincing performance against not only one of the best teams in the conference, but also one of the nations top prospects in Natasha Mack. The Cowgirls were undefeated sitting at 5-0 coming into Ames tonight and will leave with their first Big 12 loss thanks to another massive double-double from Ashley Joens as well as 16 threes from seven different Cyclones. After Oklahoma State started the game ahead 4-3 early on soon enough Iowa State would start their takeover and never lose the lead for the rest of the game.
Four different Twister Sisters ended up in double figures by the time the final horn sounded. Ashley Joens proved once again why she’s one of the best players in college hoops by putting up 30 points and 15 rebounds. Natasha Mack had a game high 34 points which wasn’t enough to overcome the hot shooting night the Cyclones had across the board.
It’s a good thing that there were no fans in attendance because we shot the lights out. It’s hard to lose a game when you put up high shooting percentages from all sides of the court. Almost joining the 50 40 90 club as a team, the Cyclones shot 45% from the field, 48% from three and went 12/13 from the line.
If Iowa State can continue having nights like this one, they’re going to be one of the toughest teams in the play against in the country. ISU overcame some of the size disadvantages they had in the paint tonight against Oklahoma States bigger front court, not only by outrebounding them but by using their playmaking advantage to create open 3 point looks all night.
Iowa State will head to Baylor for their next game on 1/16
