Twister Sisters Before The Storm: Bring On Baylor

A tough road test.

Last Time Out

The Cyclones put on another shooting clinic against the Lady Pokes, knocking down 16 threes on 33 attempts to boost them to a 90-80 victory. Ashley Joens poured in 30 points and snagged 15 rebounds in her double-double effort. The victory boosted Iowa State to an 8-4 overall record and a 4-1 league record.

About Baylor

It’s no secret Baylor is the best team in the Big 12, pretty much every year. This year is no different. They’re the only team to average more points than the Clones and their defense gives up less than 50 points a game. Average margin of victory: 39.4 points. Is that enough to convince you how good they are?

They don’t really shoot the 3 ball well, but down in the post is their bread and butter. The combination of NaLyssa Smith and Queen Egbo will work the opposing team down low all night like it’s no one’s business. Both stand over 6 foot 3, which is a huge mismatch for Iowa State.

The Bears lead the all-time series 30-8, but the Cyclones hold a one game winning streak in the series after a 57-56 victory ended a 58 game conference win streak for Baylor.

What Will Happen

Iowa State is playing some really good basketball right now, don’t get me wrong, but Baylor is playing some great basketball. If Iowa State can force Baylor to shoot jump shots, they’re going to be in a position to win. Maybe the Cyclones go with a zone defense attack that will collapse in the post to try to contain the Bears post game, but I don’t think it will be enough.

Iowa State - 63

Baylor - 80

Pick Three

Baylor makes less than 8 threes

Kim Mulkey doesn’t coach

Izzi Zingaro makes an immediate impact on the team despite joining just 4 days ago
