Iowa State wins their third straight game in the Big 12 over the Lady bears in Waco and wow was it a good one. Coming off such a hot shooting night against Oklahoma State you would like to assume that it would be more of the same in order to lock in a win against a top 10 team in the country. Not tonight, despite a less than stellar shooting performance from behind the arc going 8-27, and shooting 42% from the field. Without a fantastic shooting performance what would be the key for the Cyclones to pull out a victory away from home?
Ashley Joens. That’s what. Another dominate performance from the Junior to help us along the way to the upset. 27 points and 12 rebounds including a three clutch points from a free throw (yes she missed the first one nobody is perfect) and a layup with only 8 seconds left on the clock to ice the game. Baylor would get a shot off but it fell well short of the basket allowing the twister sisters to get out of Waco much better off than David Koresh.
While ISU had their own struggles shooting the ball tonight Baylor struggled from similar issues on their side only making 4 three pointers and a disappointing 5-11 from the free throw line. You’ll be hard pressed to beat a Cyclone team with one of the best players in the country with stats like that.
With this win over the Lady Bears this slingshots Iowa State into the top spot in the Big 12 with half a game lead over Oklahoma State.
Iowa State will play host to Oklahoma next on 1/19.
