Last Time Out
Iowa State might’ve been riding a high after their huge upset over Baylor. It took them every second, and every point to put away Oklahoma. If not for Ashley Joens’ stellar performance, Iowa State could’ve got blown away too. The fantastic freshmen looked a little closer to subpar against the sooners, and the three starting freshman only combined for 16 points, Lexi Donarski with 11 of them.
The Cyclones just lacked scoring in all areas, the only quarter they scored more than 15 points was the 2nd quarter where they exploded for 26, it was close all throughout the second half with Iowa State just being able to pull away with a win.
About Texas
What is going on in Austin? This team plays great against good teams, and horrible against bad teams. The Longhorns lost to Texas Tech, a team Iowa State obliterated, but the Longhorns beat us in the last meeting by 15. Texas is ranked 19th even after a couple of shaky conference losses to Tech and West Virginia, but another big win against Iowa State would put them right back in the hunt for a Big 12 title, or at least a firm spot to get second.
Texas has five really talented starters, but their bench was certainly lacking in the past couple of games. If some of the big names for the Longhorns get in foul trouble early, Iowa State would be in a pretty good spot.
Opponent Player to Watch
Charli Collier should still be a pivotal player in the game, and if she explodes for 25-30 Iowa State will be in trouble, but this time I’m going with the guard, Joanne Allen-Taylor. She played all 40 minutes in the last matchup, finished with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. She was a do it all kind of player in the first game, and all five Texas starters finished with 10 points or more.
What Will Happen
I liked the Clones the first time, and I like them again today. I think Fennelly has more film to go off of, and other teams have cracked Texas’ code on how to beat them. The freshman, especially Emily Ryan and Kylie Feuerbach, need to step it up today. If they play well, I think we beat Texas in a close one.
Pick Three
Ashley Joens has an ‘off game’, finishes below 20
Charli Collier gets in foul trouble early
The three ball is hitting
