Last Time Out
The Cyclones were unable to get a huge win against Texas, in a game where things really just didn’t click. Iowa State shot just 39% from the field, which is well below average. If they didn’t shoot so poorly, it would have been a lot closer than an 11 point win for Texas (basketball is a simple game, right?). Ashley Joens led the way once again with 17 points and 5 rebounds.
About Kansas State
Kansas State has been all aboard the struggle bus thus far into the season. They haven’t won a game all year! Their last win came December 14 against University of Missouri - Kansas City. Sitting at just 0-5 in conference play, the Wildcats have not scored more than 69 (nice) points since the last time they faced our Lady Clones. They average 59 points a game, last in the Big 12 by a significant margin.
Not much has changed for Purple Kansas since round 1 of the season series, still trying to win like a Bill Snyder football team. Their defense is solid, they rank in the 3 in the conference for most defensive statistics.
Opponent Player to Watch
Ayoka Lee remains the focal point of the Wildcat offense, averaging 15.6 points per game to go with 7.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. The 6-6 sophomore has been the one dominant player for Kansas State, but Iowa State held her in check on the glass and it was a big difference maker in a 22 point win for the Cyclones. She stands taller than anyone on Iowa State’s roster, but a zone defense attack helped stop her from scoring. She scored 20, but a lot of the points came in garbage time.
What Will Happen
Iowa State hasn’t played well since their big win against Baylor, but that changes tonight. A Bill Fennelly squad doesn’t play poorly 3 games in a row, just doesn’t happen. The Cyclones get back on the right track and win big.
Iowa State University - 85
Kansas State University - 67
Pick Three
1 - Bill Fennelly picks up win numero 700.
2 - Aubrey Joens gets into double figures.
3 - The freshman combine for at least 30 points.
