The Cyclones traveled to the Little Apple to take on the Kansas Wildcats. Iowa State comes in at 10-5 (6-2, Big 12), while K-State sits at 5-7 (0-5, Big 12). Bill Fennelly is going for win number 700, where he starts the typical Scott-Feuerbach-Ryan-Donarski-Joens lineup. Let’s get into things.
The first quarter was a little rough for the Twister Sisters, K-State knocked down their first 3 attempts from long range to get out to an early lead. Iowa State eventually got settled in, Ashley Joens pouring in 7 points in the first quarter. The Cyclones owned the second quarter up until about 35 seconds left, where they built up a 10 point lead that would be quickly cut to 5 right before the break.
A slow second half came down to the last minute, because what is Cyclone basketball without having a heart attack? Tied at 58 for 5 minutes and 9 seconds, the Cyclones were able to make big shots and free throws down the stretch to escape Manhattan with a capitol ‘W’.
This was a very special win, as Bill Fennelly notched win number 700 on his career, congrats to Bill!
