Last Time Out
Iowa State closes out 2020 with some 3’s, and I mean a lot of them. In an absolute rout of a good Drake team, Iowa State was stuck in automatic behind the arc. It could’ve gotten uglier but Iowa State spent the majority of the 4th quarter chasing three pointers in a game records. Drake cut down the lead late, but it was never close.
About Texas
The Longhorns are 7-1 but had some... convenient postponements due to covid protocols in mid December. They missed out on games against 6-1 Tennessee, and 5-2 Kansas. The Longhorns picked up similar wins to K State and Drake. Winning both game comfortably, similarly to Iowa State. I think one of the only thing that separates these two teams is Texas is ranked. After a win today, Iowa State could be knocking on the door.
Opponent Player to Watch
Charli Collier, a forward, comes to in the game putting up 25+ in her last two performances. She’s a versatile forward that can drive to the bucket and get to the line, or stand back and shoot. The matchup of Joens and Collier is reminiscent of DeAndre Kane and Marcus Smart. Two best players on the court, same position, whoever plays better, it’s likely their team will win.
What Will Happen
Iowa State hasn’t played in what feels like months and I think we come out with more rust than rest against a good Texas squad. The 3’s won’t fall and the Cyclones will struggle to get the ball to the bucket early on. They’ll play from behind all game and keep it close but come up short.
