Twister Sisters Before the Storm: Bring on the Fighting Mulkey’s pt. 2

The Bears Are Mad

Last Time Out

A game that might’ve been a little closer than some people expected, Iowa State slipped out of Manhattan with a narrow 62-60 win. Ashley Joens had 22 points and 8 boards, and senior Kristin Scott also had one of her best games this season, finishing with 15 points. The underclassmen struggled, and they’re going to have to really step up today if they want a win in Hilton.

About Baylor

They’re really good. By far the best women’s program in the Big 12 over the last decade plus. This year is no different. The Bears make their living in the paint, good news for the Cyclones who have the best big in the country. Ashley Joens will have to be phenomenal on both ends if Iowa State wants to sweep the Bears. Queen Egbo and NaLyssa Smith will give the ‘Clones all they can handle.

Since Baylor’s loss to Iowa State, they have won their last three games by a combined SEVENTY FIVE points. That’s a 25 point differential. The Bears are out for blood.

Opponent Player to Watch

Moon Ursin could very well be the leading scorer in a game dominated by bigs. The 5’6 senior guard can fill it up in a hurry amongst the trees. If the freshmen in the starting lineup struggle offensively, they certainly can’t take any breaks on the defensive side or Ursin will make them pay.

What Will Happen

Unless Bill Fennelly has some secret potion, which he might, that no one else does. I don’t think Iowa State catches lightning in a bottle twice. A lot of things have to go right for us, and a lot of things have to go wrong for Baylor. We’ll have to hope that the the 3 point percentage is high, and that opposing foul trouble is a focal point. I really do want to be optimistic, and watch Kim Mulkey stumble through an ugly press conference for 10 minutes without giving the slightest credit to Iowa State, but I don’t think it happens today.
