Cyclones get blown away by Texas Tech, 91-64

That was bad.

NCAA Basketball: Iowa State at Iowa Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Needless to say, Iowa State basketball has struggled so far in the 2020-2021 season. If you’re waiting for a plot twist in this recap, you will be disappointed.

Texas Tech, a team that thrives on creating turnovers and scoring on them, went to Hilton Coliseum to take on Iowa State, a team that turns the ball over more than anyone in the conference, and, shockingly, turned the Cyclones over 15 times and were able to knock down shots consistently.

Meanwhile, Iowa State struggled to knock down jump shots, and fared even worse on defense and rebounds. The Cyclones shot 44% from the floor and 33% from beyond the arc, compared to Texas Tech’s 59% from the floor and 39% from three. The Cyclones were also outrebounded 33-26. A huge difference in this game came at the free throw line, where Iowa State finished six of seven, but Texas Tech knocked down eighteen of twenty-one free throws.

Unfortunately, this brutal stretch of the schedule continues for the next few weeks, but likely the best opportunity to pick up a conference win comes next Wednesday at Kansas State which is dealing with significant COVID issues at the moment.
