UNI has showed up faithfully every single time Iowa State has had a home meet this year. And every week Dresser has showed them where the spare mat is and let them roll around for a while. Well, they’ve finally worn him down. Today is the day. Iowa State is going to actually wrestle UNI.
Where: Hilton Coliseum, Ames, IA
When: 11:00AM (Arizona State), 3:30PM (UNI)
Stream: Arizona State Dual / UNI Dual (ESPN+ $$)

Key Matches
174 (UNI and ASU)
When Broderson takes the mat today he’ll face two guys who are living on the edge of the rankings. Two wins over those guys would cement him in to the top twenty for the remainder of the season and put him in a decent spot for Big 12 seeding. So far Broderson has taken care of business against opponents like this and hopefully we’ll see that again today.
184 (UNI)
Colbray was looking like a top ten wrestler when the 2020 season came to an abrupt close last March. But due to injury we haven’t had a chance to see yet whether that success will translate over to this season. He’ll get a chance to shoot his shot today against Keckeisen of UNI, who is 7-0 and in the top ten of all the ranking services. A win here would give Colbray the marquee win he needs to get a decent seed at Big 12s and NCAAs despite wrestling very few matches. A loss would mean that he’d likely enter the Big 12 tournament with a low seed and a long road to the finals.
HWT (UNI and ASU)
One of the wierdnesses that have resulted from such a short and strange season is that the rankings haven’t converged like they normally would have by now. Depending on which ranking service you look at, Gremmel will be facing either the #6 or #14 ranked wrestlers in the country today. Flowrestling has Isley 6th and Schultz 14th. Intermat has Schultz 6th and Isley 14th. If Gremmel sweeps his matches today he is all but assured a top five seed in St. Louis and a clear path to the All American podium.
Prediction
Back in early January when Arizona State was first supposed to come to Ames I had them winning the dual, but with the recent additions to Iowa State’s lineup I’m going to flip that prediction. I have ISU winning six matches against ASU and taking a tight dual 18-16, with the 174 match mentioned above being the match that ultimately decides the dual. For the afternoon dual against UNI I don’t believe it’ll be as close. I see the Cyclones saying goodbye to Hilton for the year with a solid 23-9 win over the Panthers.
Next Up
The Cyclones will travel to Morgantown to close out the regular season against West Virginia at 7:30PM on Friday, February 19th.
