Twister Sisters Before the Storm: Bring On West Virginia

A good ole fashion Big 12 showdown.

Last Time Out

Iowa State is coming off a close loss to a very tough Baylor Bears team, splitting the season series 1-1. The Cyclones didn’t play their best basketball of the season, but they played well enough to keep it close with one of the top teams in the nation. Kylie Feuerbach earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week in her efforts, and the rest of the team looks to get back on the winning track.

About West Virginia

The 21st ranked Mountaineers have been on a TEAR this season. They haven’t lost in the year 2021, winners of 8 in a row to put them just half a game back from 1st place Baylor. West Virginia is very similar team to Iowa State. They do the right thing, their coach has been there forever, and they compete every second of every game. They are the only team in the Big 12 that averages more points and shoots better from three point range than your Iowa State Cyclones.

Their defense only gives up 63 points a game, ranking 4th in the conference, as well as being the 2nd best rebounding team. Like I said, they’re a similar team to ISU. The Mountaineers are no team to sleep on folks.

Opponent Player to Watch

Kysre Gondrezick has led the way for West Virginia thus far. The 5-9 senior guard pours in over 21 points a game, 3rd best in the Big 12. She’s not the most efficient player, but she can score the ball as well as anyone else. Kysre is top 5 in the Big 12 in both assists (4.8 assists per game) and steals (2.0 steals per game). Her best game of the season was her most recent outing against TCU, where she dropped a 30 piece to go with 9 assists. She’s a dangerous scorer and is someone to keep your eyes on.
