Looking to bounce back after two straight losses, Iowa State returned to their winning ways against the Lady Raiders. Being able to return to your homecourt after a rough performance ended up being a huge difference for the Cyclones.
This is the first time ISU eclipsed the 90 point mark for the first time since, funnily enough, they played Texas Tech in Lubbock back in early January.
Ashely Joens got the scoring started as per usual and ISU never looked back. Gliding out of the first quarter with a double digit lead and didn’t let their lead drop below double digits the entire way through.
Typically when the lady Cyclones blow teams out it’s in major thanks to efficient 3 point shooting, however that wasn’t the case today. Neither team had incredible shooting performances. Iowa State shot 34.8% from behind the arc which was only slightly better than Texas Tech who shot 29.4%. Free throws were also similar with TTU hitting 14 and ISU making 18.
Four of the Cyclones five starters made it into double figures today. Ashley Joens and Emily Ryan had 21 and 20 themselves. The main difference in this game was rebounding. Iowa State was active on the boards in Hilton outrebounding Tech by 14.
These are the types of games that you wish you got to watch all the time. Gain the lead early and coast the rest of the way till the final horn. It never got close, there was no possibly momentum shift where it looked like Tech might turn things around. None of that. A nice easy win on a Saturday afternoon to help Cyclones fans weekend along.
The Twister Sisters now sit at 5th in the Big 12 and are only 1.5 games back of Baylor who sits at the top. In hopes of climbing up the standings Iowa State will head to Norman to face 6-8 Oklahoma on February 9th.
