Grad Transfer Aljaz Kunc Commits to Iowa State

He’ll have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

NCAA Basketball: Stanford at Washington State James Snook-USA TODAY Sports

TJ Otzelberger has picked up his first commitment as Iowa State’s head coach in the way of graduate transfer Aljaz Kunc, formerly of Washington State. Kunc is a 6’8” forward from Ljubijana, Slovenia who averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game for the Cougars a year ago despite fighting through injuries to begin the season. Kunc scored in double figures in 5 of Washington State’s last 8 games, averaging 8.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.

This is a good start to the Otz era. Kunc, who goes by Jaz, should be a nice piece in the front court as a stretch 4 (33% career 3 point shooter) who also crashes the glass, and encouragingly makes about 80% of his free throws. It’s easy to see how he’ll fit into a lineup headlined by Xavier Foster and George Conditt. His ability to knock down shots should allow him to fit in next to just about anyone else on the roster.

Coach Otz still has 3 more open scholarships left to fill pending any further roster turnover, so keep it tuned to WRNL for more insight as moves are made.
