Iowa State needed guys that can play right away and to fill some open spots due to coaching change and current transfer landscape. T.J. Otzelberger got both of those with Minnesota transfer Gabe Kalscheur announcing his commitment to Iowa State this morning.
I would like to thank the University of Minnesota community, fans, and my teammates for all their love and support the past 3 years. Minnesota will always be home to me. Kalscheur was regarded as one of Minnesota’s top defenders over the last three seasons. As an All Big Ten level defender, Kalscheur also scored 11.6 points per game as a sophomore and 9.2 points last season. He’s a career 34 percent shooter from deep, which is something Iowa State could also use in volume.
Kalscheur is coincidentally attended DeLaSalle High School, the same program that also produced a familiar face in Royce White. Kalscheur was one of around 9 targets Iowa State had their eyes on via the transfer portal. Stay tuned to WRNL this weekend as potentially more develops.
