Iowa State will be wrestling Purdue on Dec. 19 at none other than Humboldt High School in a non-conference matchup.
Why Humboldt?
Cyclones head coach Kevin Dresser and Purdue head coach Tony Ersland both competed for the Wildcats in their early wrestling days. Both coaches won two Iowa High School State Championships in their high school careers.
Humboldt is a town in Humboldt County with a population of 4,690. The small town is just 80 miles north of Ames. The Wildcats have 29 individual state champions in the schools’ history along with one duals championship, coming in 1968.
This is a matchup that was supposed to take place at Humboldt High School in the 2020-21 season but didn’t take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
