Iowa State got a start on filling out the running back room. Xavier Townsend a 5ft 10in running back from Tampa Bay, Florida made his commitment to Iowa State known on Sunday. Townsend was a priority for Iowa State since offering him way back in February and he took his official visit to Ames back in early June.

Townsend is the 85 composite rating according to 247sports. He held offers from Louisville, UCF, Vanderbilt, Michigan and Iowa. He already had an ongoing relationship with current Iowa State commits and Tampa Bay natives Rocco Becht and Greg Gaines. Which surely helped make the decision for Townsend much easier.
Townsend is the 17th commit for Iowa State for the 2022 class which may only have a few more scholarships left to give for the class. Stay tuned to WRNL as the rest of the 2022 class unfolds.
