Twister Sisters Preview: Syracuse

Big opportunity to bounce back.

Syndication: The Ames Tribune Nirmalendu Majumdar/Ames TRibune / USA TODAY NETWORK

Last Time Out

Despite a strong third quarter rally, the Cyclones fell to Vanderbilt by 15. The Cyclones were led in scoring by freshman Audi Crooks with 14, followed by fellow freshman Addy Brown with 11, and senior Nyamer Diew with 10.

The struggles in this outing can be pointed back to a dreadful second quarter that saw the Cyclones only score 4 points. The Clones would go into the half down 12. Late in the third, the Clones went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 3, but it was not enough.

About Syracuse

Syracuse comes into the matchup 4-1 on the season with their lone loss being a 2-point defeat to 20th ranked Maryland. In their most recent outing, Syracuse took down Northern Iowa by a score of 54-71. Syracuse was effective at the free throw line going 14-16 on the night.

Sophomore guard Georgia Woolley made her season debut against UNI, scoring 21, with 8 boards 2 assists and 3 steals. Woolley will look to be an impact player moving forward since joining the team.

Opponent Player to Watch

Dyaisha Fair. A 5’5” 5th year senior, Fair has been an important piece in each of her seasons. She is averaging just under 19 points per game on the year to go with over 4 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game as well. Be on the lookout for #2, as she played 36 minutes in her last outing and all 40 in the game prior.

What Will Happen

The Twister Sisters will find a better offensive stride and put up more points than they did against Vandy. Syracuse will be a tough opponent and they will also put up points, setting up for a possible shootout.

Syracuse - 85

Iowa State - 77

Pick Three

  1. Hannah Belanger hits 5 from behind the arc.
  2. Audi Crooks and Addy Brown both score in double figures again.
  3. Nyamer Diew records a double double.
