Last Time Out
Kieth Lamar caught fire from three but besides that, it was all Cyclones. Lipsey had 19, Tre King had 18, Paveletzke had 14 off the bench. The Cyclones were getting whatever they wanted on offense, but their 3-point defense left something to be desired. After crunching some numbers, strength of schedule and 3-point defense are about the only two negatives I can draw from to the start of the season. In contrast, Iowa State is literally the best defense in the nation from inside the arc according to KenPom. Teams are shooting under 40% on two-point attempts against the Cyclones, nothing easy.
About Eastern Illinois
You might remember these panthers from last year after an ‘upset’ win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. But EIU had another close call against Kansas earlier this year losing 71-63. However, Illinois and Loyola Chicago both beat them by 20+.
Opposing Player to Watch
My last pick got hurt in the first few minutes of the game, so I’m hoping for a healthy 40 minutes of Tiger Booker. The 5’10 guard from Chicago is tied with Nakyel Shelton as the leading scorer with 11. 5 per game. Booker put up 20 points against Kansas in a relatively close 8-point loss. The big stage might be enough for him to get it going again.
- Tamin Lipsey has more rebounds than any player for Eastern Illinois
- Big Rob Energy Double-Double
- Points in the paint is 40+ for the Cyclones.
