Twister Sisters Preview: Cy-Hawk

David vs. Goliath

Go time, ladies and gentlemen. The Cyclones welcome Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes into Ames for the Cy-Hawk game. Iowa State has had a couple wins in their light part of the schedule between their trip to Vegas and now, and will look to continue that momentum as the 4th-ranked Hawkeyes look to continue their hot start to the season.

The first ranked opponent for the freshmen-led Cyclones who continue to rely on that Top 10 recruiting class early in the year. The prolonged absence of senior Emily Ryan has opened the door for Audi Crooks, Addy Brown, Kelsey Joens, and others to see the floor early and often. Audi and Addy continue to lead the team in points (Audi), rebounds (Addy), and assists (Addy) per game and continue to set the tone for games both from the opening tip as well as off the bench. Against UNC-Wilmington, Addy recorded her second double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 assists while Audi Crooks tacked on 16 points and 9 rebounds in just 23 minutes of play. In order for the Cyclones to pull the upset, they’ll need big games from their freshman once again, as well as some leadership from Nyamer Diew. And maybe just a sprinkle of Hilton Magic.

As for the Hawkeyes, I mean there’s not much to really delve into here. It’s Caitlin Clark and then the rest of the team. Clark leads the country at 29 points per game while also being third in the country at 7.9 assists per game. She’s over double the next closest Hawkeye in points (12.7) while adding almost half of their total assists per game (20). I don’t know if anyone on Iowa State right now has the ability to stop her, but this’ll be the biggest test for this young group of Cyclones maybe all year.

Should be another great installment of the Cy-Hawk Women’s basketball game that we’ve all come to love more and more over the past decade or so. A tough task for the young guns with the help of Hilton Magic.

The game tips off at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN2 and ESPN+ from Hilton Coliseum in Ames.
